I have a bit of a hang over

Because

WE WON THE ASHES!!!!

Still cant believe it really. Its been an amazing summer of cricket (luckily I was out of the country for the first test) Every game has been a nail-biter in one way or another. The best thing for me is when one English player has a bit of an off day someone else steps up to the mark. The Aussies havent had that really. They rely so heavilly a few players to get the majority of their runs and wickets. When those players have an off day or get injured the rest of the team doesn't make up for it.

I still think we could have won the series 3 - 1 or even 4 - 0 though. We let them off the hook in the third test and if we played as well as we did in the final 4 tests for the first test we could easilly have won that one as well. Still we won and thats all that matters.

One more thing that has to be mentioned is the level of sportsmanship between the two teams. Shane Warne made a point of being the first person to shake hands with the England players who won man of the something awards and shook Pietersons hand as he walked off after his amazing innings. The photo of Freddie Flintoff consoling Brett Lee after he only just failed to save the second test was one of the best sporting photos I have seen in a long time. This is how cricket and all sports should be played. Its not about "respecting the opposition" which many sportsmen only seem to do grudingly at best. Its about seeing the opposition as equals and friends and being enough of a man to say congratulations on winning or offer some consolation in defeat. Of course you want to win, you are playing for your country after all, but at the same time you have to be gracious in victory and defeat and recognise that the opposition are going through the same wringer as yourself and it may be far worse for them.
